Gas Line Services

Install, Repair, and Leak Detection for Natural Gas & Propane

Gas line work is one of the few plumbing services where corner-cutting genuinely puts your family at risk. Wisconsin code requires licensed plumbers for fuel gas piping work, all installations require permits, and improperly done gas work can lead to leaks that cause anything from headaches and nausea to explosions.

Doro Plumbing handles all residential gas piping across the Hartford and southeast Wisconsin area: new appliance hookups, gas line extensions for additions, leak detection and repair, and full pressure tests for real estate transactions.

What We Do

New gas line installation – running a new gas line for an appliance addition. Common requests:

Appliance reconnection – moving an existing appliance, replacing one with a different size or model, or reconnecting after kitchen remodel work.

Gas leak detection – locating active leaks using electronic gas detection equipment. We inspect the entire run, identify the leak point, and repair or replace the affected section.

Pressure testing – required for new installations, real estate transactions, and after any significant gas piping work. We pressurize the system, monitor for pressure drop, and certify the test results.

Re-piping – replacing aged black iron or galvanized gas piping with new material (typically black iron, CSST, or copper depending on application).

Capping and shut-off – safely capping unused gas lines and verifying isolation.

Signs of a Gas Leak

Natural gas is naturally odorless. Utility companies add mercaptan, the rotten-egg smell, specifically so leaks can be detected. Watch for:

If you suspect a gas leak:

  1. Get out of the house immediately. Don’t flip light switches or use anything that could spark.
  2. Call 911 and your gas utility (We Energies in our area: 1-800-261-5325) from outside the house.
  3. Don’t go back in until utility crews give the all-clear.

Once the immediate emergency is addressed, call us to handle the actual repair. Utility companies will shut off the gas at the meter; they don’t repair the lines inside your house.

Permits and Code

Every new gas piping job in Wisconsin requires a permit and inspection. We pull permits on every job that requires one, so the work is documented for insurance, real estate transactions, and any future warranty issues. Skipping permits sounds cheaper but creates problems when you sell the house, file a claim, or run into an inspection later.

Wisconsin allows several pipe materials for residential gas distribution:

We choose the right material for the application and install it to current Wisconsin Uniform Plumbing Code (Chapter SPS 382).

Real Estate Pressure Tests

If you’re buying or selling a home and an inspection flagged the gas piping, or if your insurance carrier has requested certification, we can perform a formal pressure test and provide the documentation. Turnaround is usually 1-2 business days from scheduling.
